  1. “ If you call yourself a Christian, but you do not believe you need to repent of the sin that claims your identity, heart, and perhaps body, my prayer is that this book sounds a serious alarm to you. (Butterfield 10)

This quote stands out to me because many people believe that if they are themselves then it is impossible to sin. They often view being a Christian as being the perfect person therefore there is no need for them to repent. The fact is, everyone sins, and everyone should repent their sins. This book has opened my eyes and made me realize that I too forget to repent my sins sometimes.

  2. “The Bible simultaneously encouraged and enraged me.”(Butterfield 17)
I chose this quote because I understand where the author is coming from. There are obviously a multitude of passages in the Bible that encourage, but also, there are quite a few that challenge ones lifestyle, mainly dealing with sin.

  3. “It is not the absence of sin that makes you a believer” (Butterfield 8)

As christians we fail daily. We can never uphold the perfect example that Christ has set for us so we will sin and mess up everyday. No matter how hard we try to be the “perfect Christian”, we cannot be. I chose this quote because I need this reminder daily. It can be so easy to get caught up in life and make bad decisions. However, it is crucial to remember that when we have messed up, it does not define our faith or make us a failure as a christian.

  4. “Nor did it leave me with the sentiment that Christians are better, nicer, more honest and a more fun crop of cronies. We are not. No way. At least, not in my experience.”

This statement that Rosaria Butterfield writes really takes a shot at Christianity. She critiques the very group of people she is apart of and that shows that she doesn't associate her self as being a “perfect Christian”. She knows that Christians are the most broken people coming to Christ to be mended and saved.

  5. “We are all sexual sinners.”

I chose this quote because it is a very true quote. Everyday people either think about sex or preform sexual activities that are immoral. Watching pornography is very common in teen boys and also teen girls. It is hard for teens these days to stop watching porn because they can watch it anywhere and anytime with a computer or even on a smartphone. The reason why it is hard for people to stop watching porn is because they can get it whenever they want, why would they quit on something they can get all the time? There really is no way to stop being a sexual sinner but if people stopped watching porn and doing immoral sexual acts, then that would make people less of a sexual sinner.

  6. William Gurnall, God carried us "long into the womb of his eternal purpose." so God carries us, yes but God also calls us to act and to serve.

I choose this because it sticks out in the meaning of the book. I feel as she is explaining she was lesbian, God carried her through that phase of sin in her life and now she has learned from her mistakes, and she is sharing the word of God through this book as Gods plan for her to complete for him.

  7. "It is not the absence of sin that makes you a believer." (Butterfield 8)

This quote reached out to me because we have some people in the world today that are sinners and are believers of Christ. Most people that are living a Christian lifestyle are trying their best to live by the 10 commandments, get baptized, and live a holy life. Christians sin everyday. Nobody is perfect. We live in a century that sinners know that Jesus is real, but the followers of Christ are those who struggle to stay on the right path of living right for God our savior.

  8. "We need to be clear, not just that we are all sinners, but that we are all sexual sinners." (Butterfield 4)

I chose this quote because it helps me stay focused that we are all the same outside of salvation. No one is better than anyone else because we all have problems. Those problems being a result of sin. God looks at all sin the same. In God's eyes we are no better than a "homosexual" or in other words just a sinner.

  9. "'Redeem' is a verb of empowerment. Think about how much depth and grace is packed into this little world!"

I chose this quote because redemption plays a big part in this book of how the woman is trying to change her ways and become a faithful servant of God once again. Redemption is a very important topic to talk about with forgiveness to clear mindedness.

  10. “And even after we are born again, we will all struggle with sin until we die and Glory or Jesus returns.” (Butterfield 8)
I chose this quote because it is a common misconception that after you get saved you will not struggle anymore. Those who are saved are sometimes tempted more often making the struggle harder for them.

  11. “I still felt like a lesbian in my body and heart. That was, I felt, my real identity. But what is my true identity?”

What is “our” personal identity? Who are “we”? What are “we”? Where are “we” coming from and where are “we” going? There are so many people thinking about these questions, some of them a whole life. Finding the truth in this questions is so complex. To differentiate between what “we” are thinking who “we” are and what “we” mainly are is much more than difficult. I choose this quote because of Rosaria’s struggle to find her own identity and to point out my thoughts about everyone’s purpose in life.

  12. "It is not the absence of sin that makes you a believer. It is the presence of Christ in the midst of your struggle that commends the believer and sets you apart in the world." (Butterfield 8)

This quote puts a new understanding on the word "believer". So many times we think that because we fall sometimes, or even just struggle, it makes us non-believers. We can never escape sin. We have been born into a fallen world, therefore we are going to sin. With that said, as christians we should live our lives knowing that everything we do should reflect our heavenly Father. Although, with the influence of the Holy Spirit living within us, we do not have to face such temptations with our own human strength, but we can take it on with the divine power of God on our side helping us overcome our fleshly desires.

  13. "If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened."

This quote is in Psalms 66:18. This quote sounds contradictory to me. Its saying if we desired the quality of being evil, then we would be ignored by the Lord basically. But what even more unique about this quote is; we all all carry evil things in our heart. Because we are not perfect, and we need the Lord. Because life without God is pointless and lifeless. Its pure truth!
