  1. " You can't bypass repentance to get to grace. Christ is manifest in our humility, not in our disobedience. Our disobedience cost Jesus everything." ( 61)

This quote is important to me because often times people think they don't have to repent their sins in order to receive grace. Christ is here for us when we repent our sins. He died for our sins, therefore if we do not repent our sins we will not receive grace.

  2. "When Christ claimed me for his own and I responded in surrender, I thought that shame would be a distant memory" (59)

I chose this quote because I feel like it can relate to a lot of people with sinful problems. Yes, they do ask for forgiveness, but some may still feel ashamed for their actions in the long run.

  3. This chapter is about repentance, resisting temptation, and sin. The first question that was in the book was “Why Do Christians Still Sin”? She mentioned in the text that she struggled with sin because she was ashamed that it will be a problem with God. Christians shouldn’t have a problem with sin if they have fully converted to Christ. She also said that Christians should just deal with it and why is sin such a big deal. Even though she’s new to the Christian lifestyle, she still struggles with her old lifestyle. It’s not easy being a child of God. That’s why when we turn to him, he welcomes us with open arms as we repent for our sins.

  4. "Repentance of sin is an honor that adorns royalty" (Butterfield 90)

One step of repentance is confessing your sins to God. By doing this, it brings honor and praise to God. In confessing your sins, you are honoring the King of Kings and putting all of your shame and burdens on Him. This is saying that you know that He is the only one who can redeem you.

  5. ”Jesus ran the whole race, while I collapsed in the first mile.” (82)
This quote really speaks to me because it shows how awesome of a God we serve. It reminds us that we can’t do anything without Jesus holding our hand. Without Jesus we can’t even make it a “mile” in life without Christ by our side, and yet he ran the whole race on his own. The devil tried to stop him, but he just kept going and powered through.

  6. “Grace isn’t like the lollipop the doctor gives my son to distract him from the flu shot.” Pg. 61
I chose this quote because Butterfield shows how much struggle she had to go through to find her true grace. She knew that it would take time for her to feel like she deserved forgiveness for her sins. She is saying that grace isn’t an object that you can just take and claim it as your own, grace takes you not the other way around and once grace has you, it’s never letting go. Grace isn’t going to slowly disappear over time like a lollipop would, it stays with you forever.

  7. "Remembering that confession of sin glorifies God." (89)

I chose this quotes because I think It amazing that our God glorifies in us confessing our sins. In confessing sin to God and truly feeling sorry about our sins shows God our repentance which is the name of the chapter. I mean could u imagine telling your earthly father you messed up he probably would not glorify you, but our heavenly father does and it is amazing.

  8. Repentance Quote
    Luke Edge
“You can’t bypass repentance to get grace.” (Butterfield 61)
This quote is significant because it is very true. There is a process in receiving grace, and repentance is one of the most important steps. You can’t expect to be forgiven unless you ask for it.

  9. "You can't bypass repentance to get grace." (Butterfield 61)

This is important because it is something that I have gone through. I have wanted the grace and forgiveness but I did not want to work for it. These things are not a hand out, they must be worked for.

  10. “Although temptation is not a sin itself, it also is not good.”

I chose this quote because even though temptation is not a sin, it can lead a person to committing a sin. Whenever a person is tempted to do something they are thinking hard about doing that specific act and may end up doing it after thinking about it for a while.

  11. “Although temptation is not a sin itself, it is also not got.”

Why is temptation not good? Is it only not good or is it something more complex? Indeed it isn’t that simple. In my opinion it’s important to know exactly what the definition of temptation is. Temptation is not only having thoughts about doing something, sometimes it is already the try to get something, for example by being polite or frightening. So in this case it’s already a behavior. Like Oscar Wilde (Irish writer) said: “I can resist everything except temptation.” This shows the bad connotation of temptation. Unfortunately, temptation is only the beginning of something worse.

  12. "I am a new creature in Christ and therefore I just need more grace to deal with this, but if God doesn't provide this, it is his fault,"

I have to disagree with Butterfield on this statement. Yes, she says shes a new creature, but in my opinion I believe that God knows that already so you don't have to assume or put weight on Gods work or timing. Because God does not have to give any grace at all but he does because he loves his children. God is never in the wrong. Then, you dont tell God where his fault is at! Its never Gods "fault". God does not have a weakness. If anything, its that persons fault. I have to disagree with her.

  13. “To live without shame, both the nature of God and the nature of man must be held in uncompromising love.” (Butterfield 91)

I chose this quote because I find it easily relatable. It is so easy to feel shame in what we use to be and in our past self. We must embrace our new status as a redeemed Christian and find our self worth in Christ alone. This also brings us to an understanding that we need to secure our identity in Jesus and His love. If we are completely consumed by Him and hold Him in the strictest love, it will make it harder for our old habits to sneak back into our life. When we keep this love strong it will make our relationship with Christ grow and keep us strong in our walk towards righteousness.

  14. "You can't bypass repentance to get to grace."

What Butterfield says here is pretty obvious but often times over looked. As Christians we just want the grace and forgiveness but we never want to remove the old lifestyle and turn our lives around. If we don't do that then we just subject ourselves to a sinful life.

  15. Page 63: "Because of our fallen natures, we expect that we will be repenting of sin until glory."

This is a significant quote because it explains how we go day by day repenting our sins to God until glory, which means until we're "good" enough for him. But as one of my teachers explained, we'll never be good enough. God died for all of our sins, he sacrificed himself for all of us. There's nothing we can do to be "equal" or be "good". We just have to repent our sins and live the way Christ wanted us too. We have to stop repenting our sins for a pat on the back instead we need to be doing it for the real reason, which is forgiveness.
