In the research that Jones did on human sexuality and how he believes that "there is nothing persuasive presented in contemporary scientific research that renders invalid the classical ethical judgment of the Christian Church about homosexual conduct" Basically that people could still be Christians even if their sexuality isn't necessarily accepted. They still show evidence that they have Christian values and they love God. And that "Behavior is moral if there is evidence of the Spirit in other areas of life."
ReplyDeleteIn this research article Dr. Stanton Jones is saying that even though a person’s sexuality isn’t necessarily accepted it doesn’t mean that person cannot be a Christian. She states that in the bible sexual union between a man a women looks like is severs up to four purposes procreation, union, physical gratification, and instruction. Jones uses the “they say, I say” technic by using someone else’s opinion on ‘science proving homosexuality is genetic’ and strongly stating her point of view by saying, “the argument is wrong logically and it’s wrong scientifically.” She goes on by saying “all of us are sinful and prone to sin as part our basic condition and natures.” Her final conclusion of her research paper she ends with stating her opinion on both side of the arguments that she says are both wrong, and that behavior cannot be moral nor immoral without evidence.
ReplyDeleteIn this article Dr. Stanton Jones is doing experiments to see what causes homosexuality. He tests the genetics first by taking twins, regular siblings, and adopted siblings. Throughout many tests and experiments in the end Jones says “Science has nothing to offer that would even remotely constitute persuasive evidence that would compel us to deviate from the historic Christian judgment that full homosexual intimacy, homosexual behavior, is immoral.” So no matter what this world says about homosexuality it is wrong. There is no way around it. You can’t use the saying “I was born this way” because that’s simply wrong, and the Bible talks strictly against it.
ReplyDeleteIn this article, "Homosexuality: The Use Of Scientific Research In the Church’s Moral Debate" is about the biblical views of sexuality. "Our sexuality is a good gift from God. The consummation of a heterosexual marriage in sexual intercourse has been viewed as creating a divinely blessed and intended outcome, a “one flesh” union between wife and husband". This quote is about how God blessed us and we have a choice to make. He has created us to be one flesh between a man and woman. "The essential claim in discussions about prevalence is that the high prevalence of homosexuality, claimed to be 10% or more of the general population, demands revision of our traditional ethic". This is another point of what the article is about, which is prevalence.
ReplyDeleteIn her research article Dr. Jones explains that just because of a person's sexuality does not mean they cannot be a Christian. She finishes by stating opinions on either side and then saying they are both wrong. Behavior cannot be measured by morals.
ReplyDeleteIn this article, Dr. Jones is doing experiments to see what causes homosexuality.Even though a persons sexuality isn't necessarily accepted it doesn't mean that person cannot be Christian. Dr. Jones takes the genetics first by taking twins, regular siblings and adopted siblings. Through out the various experiments Jones comes to the conclusion that "science has nothing to offer that would even remotely constitute persuasive evidence that would compel us to deviate from the historic Christian judgement that full homosexual intimacy, homosexual behaviour, is immoral." no matter what society says about homosexuality, it is wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn this essay, Jones talks about having an unaccepted sexuality, does not mean that you can not be a christian. Sexuality is not definitive for religion."The essential claim in discussions about general population, demands revision of our traditional ethic."
ReplyDeleteDr. Stanton Jones explains in depth how scientific research about homosexuality is mistakingly used in the “Church’s Moral Debate”. Dr. Stanton wants to make it clear that just because science has “proven” something to be “true” why should that shake the Church from standing on God’s Word if we know the Bible to the truth. Stanton states that there are four key areas that include, prevalence (How common is homosexuality?), causation (What causes homosexuality?), psychopathology (Is it a “mental illness”?), and mutability (Is change possible) where Stanton says, “scientific evidence is much less clear and conclusive than the lay public typically believes, and is far from persuasive…” As we can see the “scientific” data that has been presented to the public can skewed and not as reliable as people make it out to be. Also to use scientific evidence in argument that boils down to morals as Stanton puts it, “are most often deeply flawed and confused.” So why are there people in the church that'll give in and say that homosexuality is okay and that where the Bible clearly states that it is a sin to just look over it? As Christians we need to stand firm on God’s Word and never waiver from what is true.
ReplyDeleteIn the essay Jones talks about how a persons sexuality should not have anything to do with them being a Christian or not. Dr. Jones takes the genetics first by taking twins, regular siblings and adopted siblings. Dr. Jones basically says that both views of sexuality are wrong and no matter what society says about homosexuality it is wrong.
ReplyDeleteStanton L. Jones writes in his essay “Homosexuality: The Use of Scientific Research In the Church’s Moral Debate” about that “there is nothing persuasive presented in contemporary scientific research” which can say anything against the “classical ethical judgment of the Christian Church” in concerning “homosexual conduct”. He first found out about the “broad and positive view of sexuality of the Bible”. According to the bible, “Human beings are sexual, […], physical beings by creational intent” and “blessed as a creational good”. But he states, “Our sexual nature, however, cannot be celebrated only as good, given the reality of human sinfulness”. Talking about the “sexual ethics” he figured that there are two “biblical options concerning full sexual intimacy”. “Fidelity in marriage or chastity in singleness” are showing the “unified voice” concerning the “sexual ethics” in the Bible. His second result is the “clear” condemnation of homosexual conduct belonging to the bible. He asks if the “full acceptance of homosexual conduct” has to understand as a “moral”. Therefore his solution is that “there is nothing in the evidence of science today that would force the Christian Church to change its moral teaching”. The topic “Prevalence – How common is homosexuality?” he realizes that “10% or more of the general population” claim to be homosexual. He found out about that science don’t determine sexual behavior, because the “act” of homosexuality is still our free choice. He recognizes that it has nothing to do with a “mental illness” being homosexual, “Sins are not the same things as ‘emotional problems’”. He states that it is nearly “impossible” to change the “sexual orientation” therefore it means it is fixed.
ReplyDeleteIn Dr. Stanton Jones’ research on homosexuality he found that “there is nothing persuasive presented in contemporary scientific research that renders invalid the classical ethic judgment of the Christian Church about homosexual conduct”. Humans are sexual beings by intent, and “our sexuality is a gift from God”. The reality of human sinfulness destroys this concept, and our sexuality is now broken and twisted. Dr. Jones states that “the logic by which the scientific evidences are applied to the moral problem of homosexuality are most often deeply flawed and confused”. It was originally estimated, based off of male sexual behavior, that 10% of the human population was gay. Dr. Jones references a study that was conducted between twins to see how genetics impacted their homosexual orientation. The study found that genetics are a weak influence in homosexuality, and if genetic influences do exist, they only influence some forms of homosexuality. Through Dr. Jones’ research he has found that there is no scientific proof that causes us to believe that homosexuality is genetic. He states “science has nothing to offer that would even remotely constitute persuasive evidence that would compel us to deviate from the historic Christian judgment that full homosexual intimacy, homosexual behavior, is immoral”. The scriptures are the guide in which Christians live their life, and they do in fact condemn homosexuality.
ReplyDeleteIn Doctor Stanton Jones" research on homosexuality he uses genetics as a form of research to see if homosexuality is a form of genetics. He test a set of twins later to find out that genetics has little or nothing to do with peoples acts on homosexual desire. He states that there is nothing that stands out to be persuasive in research to make people believe different from Christian beliefs that date back along time ago.
ReplyDeleteIn Dr. Stanton Jones article he does various experiments to find out the cause of homosexuality. He also briefly spoke on how homosexuality is one of many areas that God doesn't want his people to engage in. He puts in his article the biblical view of sexuality and describes it as a gift from God. He used a number of human twins for his experience. He wanted to see if one twin was gay, was the other one gay as well. He then proposes a question, Is it a "mental illness"? Dr. Jones concludes by stating that both sides or opinions on human sexuality is wrong.

ReplyDeleteIn Dr. Stanton Jones’ research on the topic of homosexuality, he found that “while science provides us with many interesting and useful perspectives on sexual orientation and behavior, the best science of this day fails to persuade the thoughtful Christian to change his or her moral stance.” Science is a great study, however people in the past have tried to use science that goes against the Word of God; evolution for example. Jones’ also found that “Christians have historically affirmed that God’s spoken Word, the Scriptures, are our truthful guide in all matters to which they speak.” Many people today, no matter what their sexual preference, have began trying to prove the Bible wrong on the topic, or they have distorted scripture to make it look as if it supports homosexuality. Stanton refers to this as a “spiritual disaster”; when “Gay-affirming proponents within the Church are increasingly and assertively saying that we simply must acknowledge that the Bible is wrong in this area and move on.”
Dr. Stanton Jones' research essay explains his opinion towards the practice of homosexuality and his beliefs on the practice of sexuality in all. Jones believes in the traditional male and female heterosexual ways of human life. He also is a strong believer in the biblical stand point of sexuality when he refers to Genesis 1:28, I Corinthians 6:12-20, Ephesians 5:31-33, ect. all talking about the right way God wants us as humans to practice our ways of sexual conduct. Also in the field of marriage between man and woman. The Bible explains that when a male and female have sex their spirits become one with the flesh, and when it comes down the homosexuality the Bible explains that it is an abomination towards the gift of sexuality from God. Overall, Jones is explaining to his audience that sex is a gift that we must be trusted to use appropriately towards God and the ones who use it inappropriately need to change their ways for forgiveness.
